One of the most amazing things about blogging is being introduced to some of the many amazing brands who are working hard to make a change. The minute I learned about Hathorway and what they do, I instantly fell in love.
Hathorway is an ethical fashion brand that not only uses natural, sustainable and repurposed materials, but also donates 10% of all profits to initiatives and organizations that empowers women. They sell a beautiful collection of earrings, necklaces & pendants, bracelets & bangles, and bags & purses. Each piece is simple, yet so unique.
Jessica, the founder, designer, and maker of Hathorway Jewelry & Accessories was so sweet and kind enough to gift me not one, but TWO stunning pairs of earrings: the triangular Moc Chau 16K Gold Plated Cream-Colored Chunky Stud Earrings, and the Phan Thiet 16K Gold Plated Round Earrings, both made from repurposed buffalo horn.
The buffalo horn element is really what makes Hathorway so unique. These horns are ethically-sourced and eco-friendly, and are a byproduct of the food industry. Hathorway reuses and and repurposes them so that nothing is wasted. Not to mention, their process is really neat: The horn pieces are created in Vietnam, where the large tubular horns are first cut in half. They are then boiled in hot oil in order for the material to soften up and pressed into thin plates. Next, the craftsman traces the design on to the horn before they are cut into various pieces. Depending on the design, details and embellishments are added and then the pieces are polished to create a glossy finish. Hathorway then purchases the horn beads and has them shipped to California, where they put them together to create these awesome pieces.
As if a brand couldn't get any better, Hathorway uses seed paper for all things including earring holders and business cards. When I discovered this, my jaw literally dropped (because I thought this was SO cool). This is the first time I've ever heard about seed paper. Most people throw away packaging, but if you simply soak this wildflower seed paper in water overnight, plant it in the ground or a pot, and give it direct sunlight and water daily, something will begin to sprout!
Aside from buffalo horn jewelry, Hathorway also sells handwoven rattan bags which are so trendy! For the lining in these bags, instead of using new fabric, they use fabric from unwanted clothing. Each year landfills pile up with textile waste and the impacts on our environment are detrimental. Hathorway finds a way to reduce that textile waste by repurposing old clothing.
Again, I am so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to work with Jessica and Hathorway and share it with you guys. I've collaborated with a good number of brands but Hathorway is definitely one of my favorites by far. Their clear commitment to sustainability and meticulously crafted, gorgeous pieces are what make them truly stand out.
