I started my blog as a sophomore in high school (almost two and a half years ago) with the goal in mind to raise more awareness about the negative impacts of the fast fashion industry. What I didn’t expect was to become part of a large community of like-minded conscious consumers. Although sustainable fashion has become a lot more widespread since the start of my blog, it still isn’t as accessible as it should be. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve spent hours searching for a brand that not only meets my standards for quality and aesthetics but also values.
When Maisa, the founder of Consciously, reached out to me, I was so excited. Part of what makes my collaboration with Consciously so special is that it is South-Asian woman founded. I’ll be honest, one of the things I noticed almost instantly about the sustainable fashion community on Instagram is that I never really saw people who looked like me. That’s why it’s so refreshing to collaborate with a brand that has similar roots advocating for ethical fashion.
Consciously eliminates the entire hassle of searching endlessly for the right sustainable brands to purchase from. They curate some really amazing brands and make sure that they are all doing their part in prioritizing the environment. The brands they carry are required to meet at least two of the following sustainability criteria:
Fair Trade Certified
Vegan
Transparent
Eco-Friendly Materials
Female-Founded
Handmade
POC-Founded
Small-batch production
By setting up these standards, Consciously makes sure that the brands in their marketplace are contributing to making brands that are true champions of sustainability more accessible. Their website highlights both apparel brands and jewelry brands so you can access everything you need in one place.
A piece that particularly caught my eye was the David Aubrey SAHE17 hoops. I got the opportunity to style these and paired them with a cute red romper. The earrings are handmade and the quality is great. They are so versatile and can really be paired with anything.
Some other brands featured on the website include Industry Standard, Esse The Label, and Whimsy and Row.
I’m really glad I got the chance to collaborate with Consciously and I definitely know the first place I’m heading the next time I’m on the hunt for a sustainable item. Make sure to visit their Instagram and fill out the link in their bio to be the first to know when they launch.
